TCU Booth Draws Attention of Uganda’s Deputy Prime Minister

Kampala, Uganda, September 10, 2025

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, Hon. Nakadama Rukia Isanga (MP), today, September 10, 2025, paid a special visit to the exhibition booth of the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) during the First Regional Ministerial Conference on the East African Common Higher Education Area (EACHEA), taking place in Kampala, Uganda, from September 9th to 11th, 2025.

The visit by the Deputy Prime Minister underscored the importance that Uganda attaches to regional cooperation in higher education and highlighted the visibility of Tanzania’s contributions to this historic event. The mini-exhibition, held alongside the conference, is showcasing the role of Higher Education Regulatory Institutions from all Partner States of the East African Community (EAC) in promoting harmonisation, quality assurance, and the mutual recognition of academic qualifications.

At the TCU booth, Hon. Nakadama was warmly received by Dr. Telemu Kassile, Director of Accreditation at TCU, who is representing the TCU Executive Secretary, Prof. Charles Kihampa, at the conference. Dr. Kassile briefed the Deputy Prime Minister on Tanzania’s achievements in strengthening higher education regulation, aligning national standards with regional frameworks, and advancing initiatives that facilitate student mobility, academic exchanges, and regional integration.

The Deputy Prime Minister commended TCU for its efforts to enhance Tanzania’s higher education system and for its active role in regional policy development. She emphasised that higher education is a cornerstone for socio-economic transformation, noting that initiatives such as the EACHEA provide a platform for young people across East Africa to acquire skills, share knowledge, and contribute to sustainable development.

Tanzania’s participation in the conference, through TCU and representatives of Higher Education Institutions, reflects the country’s strong commitment to the East African Community’s vision of an integrated knowledge-based economy. The TCU booth continues to attract regional and international delegates, serving as a hub for engagement and exchange on issues critical to the advancement of higher education in East Africa.
