Tanzania Ambassador Applauds TCU at Regional Higher Education Conference
Kampala, Uganda, September 9, 2025
The Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to Uganda, H.E. Major General Paul Kisesa Simuli, paid a courtesy visit to the exhibition booth of the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) during the First Regional Ministerial Conference on the East African Common Higher Education Area (EACHEA), currently taking place in Kampala, Uganda. The conference, which runs from 9th to 11th September 2025, has brought together policymakers, regulators, and higher education leaders from across the East African Community (EAC).
Ambassador Simuli’s visit underscored Tanzania’s active participation in the event and highlighted the country’s strong presence at the mini-exhibition, which showcases the role of Higher Education Regulatory Institutions in promoting harmonisation and integration within the region. The TCU booth has drawn significant attention for its comprehensive presentation of Tanzania’s achievements in higher education regulation and its ongoing efforts to align national standards with regional frameworks.
At the booth, Ambassador Simuli was received by Dr. Telemu Kassile, TCU’s Director of Accreditation, who is representing the TCU Executive Secretary, Prof. Charles Kihampa, at the conference. Dr. Kassile briefed the Ambassador on TCU’s role in the conference, particularly its contributions to policy development in the areas of quality assurance, recognition of academic qualifications, and the promotion of student and academic mobility within East Africa.
In his remarks, Ambassador Simuli commended TCU for its dedication to strengthening Tanzania’s higher education sector and for its commitment to advancing regional integration. He emphasised that education is a cornerstone of socio-economic development and lauded the EACHEA initiative for creating opportunities that enable young people across East Africa to learn, exchange ideas, and acquire the skills necessary to transform the region.
The participation of Tanzania’s delegation, comprising TCU and representatives from various higher education institutions, reflects the country’s firm commitment to regional cooperation in higher education.
As the three-day conference continues, the TCU booth is expected to remain a key platform for engagement, attracting interest from regional and international delegates eager to learn more about Tanzania’s progress in higher education and its contributions to the broader vision of regional integration.
